Apps to Improve Your Golf Game This Summer
Coming into the holiday season, a few things are guaranteed in Victoria: longer days, cricket at the MCG, and weather that doesn’t require four layers to brave the outdoors before 10am!
And for many of us the long summer days also afford us the perfect excuse to escape to the golf course for a few hours.
However, this traditional game has caught up to the 21st century in more ways than one, with a suite of new apps and programs for your smartphone and tablet that can help improve your game or how you experience it. Here are a few of our favourites.
Hole 19
This is by far one of the most innovative apps we’ve seen in business or leisure, and kind of makes us feel the same way we did when we first used GPS for the first time. Hole19 finds the golf courses nearest you, and pulls up a highly detailed Google Map for each course.
That’s the basic stuff. Now, when you play each shot, you can pull out your phone and enter shot data like shot distance, angle and the club you used. It’s as simple as dropping a pin on the spot on the map where your shot landed. The amazing thing is that the app will collate all the data and show you graphically what your game looks like, and how you can improve.
The social feature is also a standout, as once you get your friends hooked on the app, you can see their scores and games as well. Now you can see which friend consistently drives perfectly off the tee (and can ask them for tips). Got another friend who always can dig themselves out of trouble with a mid-range iron? Now you can see how they do it.
Rules of Golf
A bit more basic, but no less useful is the Rules of Gold app that was developed by the home of golf, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
Like poker, the rules of golf are often forgotten by occasional players, and this is a handy app to have on your screen to brush up on the finer points of the game without being inundated with technical language from the club pro!
My Pro To Go
Do you have a shot that causes you more trouble than any other, but don’t want to book in for an expensive lesson to find out what you are doing wrong? My Pro To Go might be the ideal app for you.
Get a friend to record your swing on your phone from two angles, from the side and from the back. Then you upload the video to the app. A certified golf instructor will then get to you within 24 hours with advice on how to fix your errant swing.
Enjoy your time on the course and relax. And when you get back to the office, we can give you a hand with any of the small and medium sized enterprise planning tips you need to get your business humming along in the new year.
