HELP Debt 20% Reduction

As widely published over prior months the ATO has now applied the one-off 20% debt reduction measure to those taxpayers who have a HELP loan. Individuals will not have to do anything as this is automatically calculated and applied by the ATO.

The 20% reduction will be calculated based on what a person’s HELP debt amount was as at 1 June 2025, before indexation was applied. Those taxpayers that have paid off their HELP debt subsequent to 1 June 2025, should receive a refund for the HELP credit in coming weeks..
